Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Update post Wildflower Half

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Update Post Wildflower Half

Well as with any new point system I knew that it would take a year at least for everyone to get the hang of the points and also for there to be true competitiveness in it as well. Wildflower was an equalizer since it was closer to some groups that others and that really shook the rankings up.

Our Top 3 Men with Jeff Ball, Andre Fuqua and Steve Moore stayed the same as none of them ran the Wildflower Half. Team TROT runner Dan Bucci after his win moved into 5th overall, Cody Wollard's solid performance moved him into 7th and Marc Henn's consistent approach has him in 10th.

TEAM TROT runner Tracie Akerhielm retained her lead but Team TROT runner Lauren Ross moved into a solid 2nd place after winning the Wildflower Half. Jenna Jurica who won the 10k at Wildflower moved into a solid 3rd place within striking distance of the lead.

Where there is smoke there is FIRE... And the Brazos Running Club is ON FIRE right now. They send the troops out in full force to the Wildflower Half and hit the Jackpot.

The Golden Triangle Strutters tacked on 6 points to push them to 173.4 and sole leader of the CLub Standings. The Brazos Running Club put up over 59 points to move them past the HATRs into 2nd place with 110 points. The Houston Area Trail Runners picked up 25 points to pull them up to 94 points. Team RWB add 10 to their 47 point total and the Lone Star Spartans added 5 points to get them to 33.

In our volunteer contest James "im here every race" Limbaga leads the volunteers followed by Eddie Williams and Robyn Thompkins.

So the places are moving and everything that goes with it. The Texas Treasure Quest is a points based game so it does not count but we will resume with the August 6th Night Moves Trail Run.

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Post Brazos Bend 50 Update

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Updated Standings

With the Brazos Bend 50 having 4 distances and over 880 runners there was quite a bit of change within the individual runners and a BIG change with our new groups making some headway.

Mens Division

Team TROT runner Jeff Ball continued with his 1st place standings this year by capturing the 25k title and staying a top in 1st place. Andre Fuqua tried his hand at the 50 miler distance for the 1st time and fought hard all day long. That great effort combined with his strong performances at Horseshoe Trail Run and San Felipe have him sitting nicely in 2nd place. John Yoder 4th and Daniel Lawton great finishes in the 50 miler put them in the top 5 for the points. Team TROT runner Calum Neff's win in the 50k has him within striking distance of the top 3 and with Franklin Mountains and BB100 on deck will give the top 5 a run for its money this year.

Womens Division

Team TROT runner Tracie Akerhielm took the CR at the 10k padding her lead as the top female so far this year. Team TROT runner Lauren Ross who won the 25k at the BB50 moved into 2nd place so far with strong performances in the Horseshoe Trail Run and also San Felipe Shootout as well. Shawna Meyers great effort at the BB50k moved her into 3rd for the standings. Robin Phelps 2nd place finish in the 50 miler moves her also up into the top 5 to round out the field.

Full Standings including age groups, volunteers, teams below.

Club Championships

There is some BIG CRUMBLINGS in the Club Championships with the emergence of the Brazos Runners Club this race. Our reigning 2 time champion Golden Triangle Strutters came out in full force at the BB50 and stayed a top with 167 points. The Houston Area Trail Runners put up some great finishes as well and pulled into striking distance with 69 points. The newly minted Brazos Runners Club came in swinging with a whopping  51 total points after getting all of their members in the program. Team RWB rounded 4th with 37 points and the Lone Star Spartans stayed consistent with 28 points.

Volunteer Points

James Limbaga RAN the Brazos Bend 50 miler successfully at the BB50 but also volunteered wednesday and thursday of race week. He comes in at 70 hours clocked volunteering this year. Eddie Williams was back again clearing 40 hours total for the year and Robyn Thompkins was just over 38 hour as well for the year. Lots of amazing hours spend by ALL of the volunteers in each and every race. We keep track of these awesome people and will reward the top 3 with something at the TROT CUP Awards in January 2017.

The Mens and Womens age groups are heating up as well for all of the groups. Make sure that if you have members that need to add they can signup HERE

We were really excited this year to announce the 2015 TROT CUP for our runners. We wanted to create a series that allowed runners to accumulate points both for them and teams that they run with. With no minimum races and free to enter we enjoyed watching the points accumlate all year. With the success of 2015 we were able to also sign some great sponsors to help us with the 2016 TROT CUP as well.

From the gun at San Felipe the combination of Tracie Akerhielm, Jeff Ball and the Golden Strutters were in the lead. They took the leads from wire to wire accumulating points in many of the races and both Tracie/Jeff qualified for the Lead Foot Award.

For the Mens Matt Zmolek made his move in the 2nd part of the year with wins at Blazing 7s 100k, Jackalope Jam and a great finish at Brazos Bend 100. Dan Bucci stayed in the hunt all year in the top 5 in many of the races that he ran. He had some great end of the year pushes at both Jackalope and Brazos Bend 100.

For the Womens Julie Koepke did her damage with not only one of the best finishes at Horseshoe Trail Run but also tackling the Habanero Hundred. She was the ONLY finisher of ANYONE in the 100 miler and it put her up near the top of the rankings. Kate Papenburg swept the San Felipe Shootout and it was tough as many women tried to chase her down.

The Golden Strutters and the HATRs battled all year long with the GTS Club starting pulling away with a strong push at Blazing 7s Trail Run. With an increasing number of members and runners going further they took the lead and never looked back.

Our Volunteer Contest had moved up and down all year. Kurt Bush was the early leader in the year with Tina and James keeping pace. Tina Barr went out to Franklin Mountain with us and manned the west aid station pushing her up to the 1st place. James "Long Shot" Limbaga worked a shift from thurs-sunday at Brazos Bend 100 and won on the last day. We cant wait to get these awesome volunteers some running swag for helping us out!

All of the full results including age groups, overall results and volunteers points below.

Trail Racing Over Texas TROT CUP Updates

With the Blazing 7s race offering a 100k, 50k, 25k and 10k there was quite a few points to gain with all the distances.

Matt Zmolek with his win in the 100k moved up to 4th place in the overall rankings and Buddy Howlett also scored in the 25k moving within a few spots of the overall podium. Jeff Miller moved up to 8th place with his 50k win also cracking the top 10 for the 2nd time this year to round out the moves in the top 10 overall.

Jeff Ball continues the run away in the 0-29 but there is an almost 6 way tie in the 30-39 age group so its all up for grabs the last 3 races. Jeff Miller 40-49 and Buddy Howlett 50-59 extended their leads in their age groups as well after Blazing 7s. Wayne Schlosser with his 100k performance put some distance in the 60-69 and Mr Musfy continues to sit atop the over 70 group.

The #8,9 and 10 all changed hands with the Blazing 7s Women;s Overall points. Kimberly Palacios, Mari Zapata and Melissa Linan all scored points and have cracked the top 10.

Kate Paperberg still leads the points for the 0-29 with some ladies starting to chip away at her leads while Tracie Akerhilem overall leader is way out in front in the 30-39 category. Sherry Scott leads Becky Nesbitt by a few points in the 40-49 category and Dawn Burris with her 100k finish takes the lead in the 50-50 category. Nancy Holcomb moves into 2nd in the 60-69 and Thelma Richardson is owning the 70+ age group as well.

The Strutters extended their lead over the Houston Area Trail Runners by over a 100 with their members who scored highly in the 100k and other races. We saw TEAM RWB get the hang of it with a great 40 point jump to move them into 3rd place overall as well.

With there being 3 races left in the 2015 TROT schedule it will come down to the last race at Brazos Bend 100. The Jackalope Jam could really shake the points up with the 24 hour runners getting the opportunity to rack up big points with mileage.

Blazing 7s Trail Run Recap

Blazing 7s Trail Run Recap

As the clock started at 8am the day began for the first Blazing 7s Trail Run at 7il Ranch. The ranch has been working as a cattle ranch for over 150 years all on the beautiful 1100 acre ranch. The ranch has never been officially trail races on so the cows were surprised when all the gun went off.

The 100k led out first with the order of running the red, orange and purple trails in that order to complete 1 loop. Each full loop was a bit over 21.5 miles for a total of 63.5 miles or approx a 100k. The 100k was led up front most of the race with Mark Junkans and TEAM TROT runner Matt Zmolek. Melissa Linan led the females out all day long and went to wire to wire. Around the 48 mile mark Matt Zmolek took the lead and finished up in first place for the men. Melissa Linan continued to run hard and ended up 3rd overall/1st female.

Top 3 Overall

Matt Zmolek 11:26 1st, Iain Wallace 14:28 2nd, Melissa Linan 14:36 3rd place

The 50k was 2 laps of the red and orange loops for the 33 miles. Jeff Miller and Patrick Kubovsky led the race out from the start and hit the 1st loops within minuted of each other. Kimberly Palacios and Kelli Vance stayed within a few minutes of each other towards lap 2. In the end TEAM TROT runner Jeff Miller took the win with a 3:55, followed by Patrick Kubovksy in 2nd with 4:07 and Paul Stewart with a 4:26. Kimberly Palacios finished strong to edge Kelli Vance with a 5:37 to a 5:44 for 1st/2nd. Carmen Martinez hit the wire with a great 2nd loop at 6:02 shortly after.

The 25k and 10k were barn burners with many great local runners all pushing hard to break each other in the sandy trails that accompanied the trails.

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Standings Updated after Horseshoe Trail Run

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Standings with Team Cup Standings

As the mud settled after the Horseshoe Trail Run the individual points and the team points were calculated. Every runner in our races gets points for the TROT Cup no matter what race you finish or run in. The TEAM Cup is determined by those who associated a designated team that you run for while in our races. Those team members points accumulate for the teams and we award prizes for the teams at the end of the year.

The  TROT CUP is designed to award individual achievements, age group awards, volunteer awards and the Team Cup As well. With over $3500 in CASH and awards it is the highest paying Cup Series in Texas Trail Running! To see more information follow HERE

In the mens division Jeff Ball the overall leader increased his lead by winning the 50k at Horseshoe Trail Run on May 17th. These standings will move very quickly as the distances get longer in the back half of the 2015 schedule. With the points variable being distance and placement runners will start to dial in their advantages of where they can succeed the most as the year progresses.

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Standings

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Standings

The Brazos Bend 50 was a great test of endurance for all of the runners on April 25th 2015. The runners had to deal with rain, hail, mud and then the sun at the end of the day. Once the rain stopped the runners started to come in with some really impressive times.

There was a few shake ups in the top men's and women's field for the Trot Cup as well. Team TROT runner Tracie Akerhielm won the 50k overall and cemented herself in the #1 spot for the overall standings. Team TROT runner Melinda Coen had a great 4th place finish in the 50 miler and put herself in 3rd place in the overall female standings.

Team TROT runner Jeff Ball trailed Team TROT runner Cal Neff from the San Felipe Shootout and entered into the 50k. Jeff finished 2nd overall and took over the points lead for the TROT Cup. Cal Neff who was in Turkey running with Red Bull slid to 2nd place. Daniel Bucci who race strong at San Felipe Shootout was the 4th male in the 50k and is your 3rd male in the TROT Cup Standings.

The Team Cup Standings will be available after the Horseshoe Trail Run and will start updating after each race there after.

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Standings Updated

Trail Racing Over Texas Cup Standings

Fresh off of the San Felipe Shootout we have updated and calculated all the points for the TROT CUP. Each point counts for every race as there is more than $3500 in Cash and more up for grabs for individuals and age group winners.  Per the rules of the Cup all runners are included in the individual and age group winnings. You do not have to have a minimum about of races to qualify and the relays will accumulate points as well for the individual runners.

We are allowing Teams to submit members that may have run but forgot to declare a team until after the Horseshoe Trail Run on May 16th. After that date your points will start for your team once you declare your team even if you forget until later in the year.  We want to make sure that is it fair for the 2nd half of the year and teams don't pick up runners who happen to be collecting more points.
